Algarve on the map for Tourism Confederation

The Portuguese Tourism Confederation (CTP) wants the Algarve to be a location to live in throughout the year and Lisbon to be the European capital of business, according to measures announced on Friday, March 19th, to be put into action over the next three years.

Carlos Pinto Coelho, Chairman of CTP, said that over the next three years CTP will be focused on bringing back the country’s competitiveness and creating conditions for growth in the tourism sector, during a press conference where the Confederations proposals for the 2010-2012 were announced.

He defends the creation of an integrated project, which foresees Lisbon as the European capital for business and the Algarve as “a place to live in all year round and not only as a seasonal product” said Carlos Coelho, adding “With low cost airlines and global telecommunications you can live in the Algarve and work all around the world.”

However, for this to happen, the Chairman stated that the region needs to “recover its image of safety”, as the Confederation is “available and financially able” to promote the region, the reason why he considers the State and the Government should follow up on CTP’s proposals.

One of the projects included in CTP’s proposals is the creation of a Tourism Congress in London in 2011, regarding which he is currently involved in negotiations.
